Greg Martin is a forty-six-year-old music teacher in Brighton — a failed jazz pianist, a half-absent father, the kind of man who has been losing his daughter for nine years and has not yet admitted it.

Ella, his seventeen-year-old daughter, makes poems and drawings on an anonymous Instagram account. When Greg discovers it, he finds a hidden creative life he has never been allowed to see — and makes a choice that cannot be taken back.

A Door Made of Ink is a novel about seeing and being seen, and the small accumulated trespasses by which a father becomes the wound he is trying to soothe.
